If you want to use a 2nd Synology, you can do that in one of two ways. If the host were to go down, you would need to remediate it, then restore that Veeam virtual server (you can do this from a laptop, accessing the Synology, and restore the Veeam server), then power on the Veeam server, and restore the rest. You can always install the Veeam software on any other computer to use for restores if necessary. Having the Veeam (virtual machine) on the host is not a bad thing, as it allows it to "hot-add" the other virtual machines making for very fast backups.
